San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy's pre-draft NFL scouting report from one team listed two bolded words in the final grade box, The Athletic senior college football writer Bruce Feldman wrote in a Tuesday article.
“NO INTEREST”
Purdy was listed as a “priority free agent” by NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein in his pre-draft scouting report. While Zierlein called him a “team leader” and a “different quarterback when he finds his rhythm,” he said confidence and consistency have been issues for Purdy and that he shies away from tight-window throws.
Purdy was taken with the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft after starting for nearly four years at Iowa State. A former 3-star quarterback from Gilbert, Arizona, Purdy shattered the school's passing record when he earned just under 12,200 passing yards and 81 passing touchdowns in his four years with the Cyclones, according to Sports Reference.
“From the outside looking in, I guess it’s a funny thing and I’ll embrace the role and have some fun with it for sure, but at the end of the day I’m trying to go and help a team win the Super Bowl,” Purdy said after the draft. “That’s where my mindset is at with it.”
Purdy's key role in the Niners run to the NFC Conference Championship game earned him praise from 49ers linebacker Fred Warner.
“I think that was the moment when everybody knew he could do it,” Warner told Eisen on Tuesday. “He can hold his own and be the guy, and he’s been that all along. I can’t talk about the poise and how incredible of a piece he’s been for us because he had to obviously prove he’s capable of leading us to where we are now. And he’s done that.”
The Niners will kick off against the Philadelphia Eagles at noon PST on Sunday in Lincoln Financial Field. The game will be broadcasted on Fox.
