For fans who don't recall, Carmella, Enzo Amore, and Big Cass were a strong unit in NXT, with the trio taking part in in-ring and backstage segments that helped to establish themselves as one of the top acts in WWE Developmental.

Sure, some fans were familiar with the trio from their time together in NXT, but at the time, the brand was fringe, with only a small segment of the overall WWE fanbase watching their antics on the WWE Network each week. Would they have had similar success on the main roster if they debuted together, with Mella managing the tag team? Or would WWE instead look to split them up like they have so many times before with popular groups, forcing the faction to sink or swim on their own?

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet about her WWE debut, Carmella revealed that she always assumed that the trio would debut together on the main roster and was incredibly disappointed to be excluded from their call-up, even if she was ultimately better off for it as a result.

“We were at WrestleMania 32; I guess Triple H had talked to Enzo and Cass separately and told them they're debuting the next night on Raw. There were talks about it because we had done tours together, we had done loops, and I was with them, so I thought, ‘When they go up, of course I'm going up with them,' so when I found out that Triple H had talked to them, and someone came and pulled me off the bus, we were about to leave TakeOver I think, or I don't even remember what we were doing,” Carmella told Chris Van Vliet via WrestleTalk.

“But I was pulled off the bus, we were about to head back to the hotel, ‘Triple H wants to talk to you', I'm like, ‘Oh yeah, we're debuting tomorrow', I was so excited. And he pulled me and he's like, ‘Enzo and Cass are debuting tomorrow, you're not gonna debut with them'. My world just came crashing down, I was devastated. In the moment, but now I look back. And he had told me, ‘This is a good opportunity for you to prove who you are on your own. You're gonna be a strong character, you don't need to be with them, you're gonna be strong on your own'. At the time, of course it was devastating to hear, but in the end, I think it all worked out the way it was supposed to. And here I am, 11 years later, still here and killing it. Not right now, but soon.”

Would it have been cool to see Carmella alongside Enzo and Cass on the main roster? You bet, but hey, Mella came onto the main roster incredibly hot and was a featured player for multiple years early in her main roster run. Who knows, if she debuted as part of a trio, maybe she wouldn't be in WWE anymore, just like her former friends?

Carmella loved working alongside R-Truth.

Elsewhere in her conversation with Chris Van Vliet, Carmella explained what it was like to work with R-Truth on the main roster and revealed that she had as much fun as it looked like she was paired with him weekly on television.

“I just loved being paired with R-Truth. He is such a treasure, and he's such a good person and so fun to be around. It was just full-on shenanigans all the time, whether the cameras were rolling or they weren't. We always had fun ideas, we would ad-lib things that weren't in the script, and it was just fun to play off each other in that aspect,” Carmella told Chris Van Vliet via Fightful.

“You just never knew what to expect, and people were looking forward to seeing what we were going to do. We were in costumes and disguises and just getting into the most ridiculous situations. I just love being that entertainment part of the show. I had already, at that point, been Women's Champion. I showed what I can do in the ring. Let me show what I can do with my character and be fun and be silly and have comedic timing and play off somebody. I think to be able to have that range is so important. Not everyone can do that, and I'm so grateful that I was afforded the opportunity to show that side of my character, especially alongside R-Truth.”

While Carmella hasn't been on WWE television in a while due to her familial pursuits, she really does have a strong catalog of moments in WWE and might just land in the Hall of Fame when she calls it a career due to her big moments from Money in the Bank and beyond.
