Olivia Rodrigo is known to curse here and there in her songs. Guts is no exception. But the “Good 4 U” singer recently revealed that she had to “tone it down” with expletives on her new album.

“That I don't think you can say”

Rodrigo appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on October 24 and was asked about her use of expletives. This was after Kimmel joked that his young son was repeating the chorus of “Vampire” back to him. “You're not the Wiggles,” the host joked, “you're an adult, you're making songs for adults. And it just so happens that younger people like them too.”

“I love using a swear word when I think it's tasteful and necessary,” Rodrigo revealed. “Sometimes I try to tone it down. There were a few songs on the album [Guts] where I was swearing all over them and I kinda had to pare it back.”

She then named the song “Get Him Back!” and the line “Cause I miss the way he kisses me and the way he made me laugh.” That line initially was “Cause I miss the way he kisses me and the way he grabbed my a*s.”

Another song Rodrigo specifically named was “All-American B***h.” The line in question was “perfect all-American lips and perfect all-American hips,” but that originally was written, “perfect all-American lips and perfect all-American t**s.”

After she said that, Jimmy Kimmel said that he didn't think she could say that second swear word. “That's why we have bleeps,” he joked.

Olivia Rodrigo will tour her new album, Guts, in 2024 across North America and Europe.
