There’s still no official word on the true extent of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s left knee injury. Although, chances are high that the team's fear that it is a season-ending torn ACL will be realized.

Garoppolo’s former New England Patriots teammate, Tom Brady, knows a thing or two about that particular injury. In his weekly radio appearance on WEEI’s Kirk and Callahan Show, Brady expressed his sympathy for his former backup and continued friend after he went down.

“It’s a tough injury. I feel bad for Jimmy … it sucks. You hate to see someone go down, someone I really like and have been friends with since the day he got here,” Brady said, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.

As Garoppolo revealed recently, he and Brady still keep in touch through text even as Jimmy G has gone on to star in San Francisco. He likely received a personal message from Brady shortly after news of his injury broke.

Brady famously tore his ACL in Week 1 of the 2008 season, just one year after the Patriots’ record-setting 2007 campaign. Luckily, he came back from that injury as good as ever, winning a couple more Super Bowls and MVPs in succeeding years. He hasn’t even missed a game due to injury in the decade since.

After signing Jimmy G to his massive contract this offseason, the 49ers obviously have faith that he can soar to the same heights as Brady. And with his recent setback, they will be hoping their young quarterback comes back as well as Brady did from his injury.
