Detroit Pistons fourth-year man Christian Wood recently had his two-way deal converted into a regular NBA contract. He has been quite impressive for the Pistons of late, and as it turns out, he might just be in for a more long-term deal once he becomes a free agent this summer.

The 6-foot-10 power forward recently opened up about how delighted he is with his current situation with the squad, and that no less than Pistons senior adviser Ed Stefanski himself told him that the front office will do whatever they can to extend his deal in the offseason.

“Before it came, I talked to Ed Stefanski and he said they’re happy to have me,” said Wood, via Detroit insider Vince Ellis. “He told me he was going to try and re-sign me for next year, but we’ll see how it goes.”

Christian Wood has been a journeyman throughout his brief career in the league, bouncing from team to team (he's played for five different teams now, including the Pistons) since he made his debut in 2015. He seems to have found a home in Detroit, and was not shy about sharing his joy to the rest of the world.

“I just want to play basketball,” Wood said, also via Ellis. “For the first time, I’m hooping, I’m happy. I got a chance with a good coach, a good front office that likes me. I’m just happy to be here.”

Wood has been a steady force off of Detroit's bench this season, averaging 9.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks in just 16.8 minutes of action. With the team on the verge of a complete revamp, Wood could realistically see a significant increase in his role for the squad in the near future.
