Josh Jacobs is back and ready to rock with the Las Vegas Raiders after coming to a contract agreement.

Jacobs was not happy over being put on the franchise tag. He had a monster 2022 season but was one of three star running backs to not get offered a long-term deal. Now that he and the Raiders agreed to a deal, there are no hard feelings. The 25-year-old is ready to work.

There's a silver lining for Jacobs withholding from all of training camp as he tried to secure a better pay day, according to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN: he isn’t physically drained as much as other guys are.

“I mean, for me, less hits is better,” Jacobs said on Thursday, via ESPN. “I get hit enough, you know what I'm saying? But I mean, man, I came back at the same weight I played at last year and I look bigger. I added muscle, so I think I'm in a good position…Yeah, I mean, if anything, I feel fresher than most people in this locker room.”

Training camp is important for all NFL teams as they ramp up to the true grind that is the regular season. There are injury risks, especially in joint practices with other teams, but also the opportunity to improve and mesh with teammates. Jacobs decided against participating to send a message to the Raiders. The message was received and fortunately for both sides, they came to an agreement both sides are happy with.

Jacobs being kept out of the high-intensity work can be a good thing for a veteran who already knows how to get ready for the season. Plus, the Raiders are going to be relying on him often this season after a huge 2022 campaign where he was the lone player to accumulate 2,000 yards from scrimmage and scored 12 touchdowns.

The Raiders probably aren’t going to be a good team, or offense, in 2023. Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams are great but the talent around them is highly suspect. Still, having one of the best running backs in the game by their side will be very beneficial.
