Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels has finally put to rest the rumors linking the team with free agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

The former New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers CB had reportedly been a major target for the Raiders this offseason, though he remains unsigned with no team appearing to be close to getting him. In recent reports, Las Vegas was said to be making a “strong push” for him, but McDaniels seemed to suggest negotiation talks didn't pan out:

“There’s been nothing substantial in that regard,” McDaniels shared on the Gilmore-to-Raiders rumors, per The Athletic.

For what it's worth, Josh McDaniels earlier said in the same interview that “sometimes it just doesn’t really fall within your range or it gets to a point where you don’t feel comfortable doing it.” Many believe he's talking about Stephon Gilmore since he was discussing about their initial free agency plans.

By the looks of it, the Raiders are out of the Gilmore chase. Of course it is not yet too late for them to come back, but it is worth noting that the 31-year-old five-time Pro Bowler has garnered interest from other teams.

While the likes of the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers are said to be the “most interested,” it is unknown whether they made significant steps in reaching a deal with him.

In an interview with Josina Anderson of CBS Sports earlier this March, Gilmore shared that he's weighing his options. He also highlighted his one desire and major consideration on his next team:

“I'm excited to weigh all options. I just want to be in a place where I can continue to win and also get a good deal. A lot of players in the league have been trying to recruit me and that’s cool, but time will tell soon,” Gilmore explained.

It has been over two weeks since he said that and, unfortunately, there were only minor rumors about his free agency status. Hopefully, the veteran cornerback makes his decision soon. After all, any team he joins is getting a massive boost with his arrival, but it looks like it won't be the Raiders.
