On Monday, the NFL suspended Oakland Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict for the rest of the season without pay for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, that wasn't the only illegal hit from the Week 4 game.

Per Rapoport, the NFL informed Burfict in a letter that it found a second helmet-to-helmet hit from the same game.

If accurate, the second hit may mean Burfict's soon-to-be appeal won't go through as he wants, as the NFL may use that as evidence for retaining the suspension.

Burfict's suspension for the Doyle hit is the longest ever (12 games) in NFL history, surpassing the five games in which Albert Haynesworth was suspended in 2006.

Burfict has a long history of suspensions and fines from the league, including, via Spotrac:

  • $10,000: Striking Packers TE Ryan Taylor in the groin, 09/27/13
  • $21,000: Hit on a defenseless Packers WR James Jones, 09/27/13

  • $1,163,787, 12 games: Targeting against Indianapolis, 09/30/19

The NFL will likely use his history in the case to keep Burfict's suspension in place. It is another plot twist for the Raiders this season.
