Rams’ Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey to go down as all-time great tandem, per Sean McVay

Rams, Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey

Defense has been the name of the game for the Los Angeles Rams squad that has seen a significant resurgence in the 2020 NFL season. Two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year in defensive end Aaron Donald along with three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been at the forefront of the team’s stifling defensive presence as of late.

Head coach Sean McVay then alluded that both Donald and Ramsey could go down as one of the best duos ever when all is said and done.

“The answer is yes,” he said via Yahoo Sports. “I can even remember a couple of years ago, when Les (Snead) and I were first discussing the potential of acquiring Jalen and you say, OK, you’ve got Aaron and you can pair him with who we think is the most special player on the backend in the NFL at that spot.’ To be able to get those two together, that’s why we thought it was important to be able to get Jalen under contract. So, I do think so.”

The 34-year-old tactician also pointed out the unique characteristics that make them both valuable contributors for the upswing that the Rams’ defensive rotation has been seeing thus far.

“I mean, Aaron’s versatility up front and all the different ways he can apply pressure, but then Jalen’s as versatile of DB as you’re going to see, in terms of being able to go outside, play on their No. 1 receiver, bump inside at the star position, blitz, tackle. I mean, he’s not just a corner, he’s a great football player.”

Their commanding impact has been on display once again as both players went to work in their most recent tilt against the New England Patriots in Week 14. Donald imposed his will and racked up 1.5 sacks and a tackle while Ramsey added two tackles of his own which ultimately limited the Patriots to score only a total of three markers all throughout the game.

The team’s disruptive activity on the defensive end coupled with their capable offensive rotation should be more than enough to allow the Rams to make significant noise in the 2020 NFL Playoffs. Both Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey will continue to contribute to the Rams’ title aspirations as they aim to score their tenth win of the season at the expense of the struggling New York Jets in Week 15 proceedings.
