Shortly before Super Bowl LVI kicked off last Sunday, news surfaced that if the Los Angeles Rams were to win, head coach Sean McVay might walk away and take a job in the broadcasting booth. Well, the Rams won and that talks have only continued to circulate.

On Tuesday, popular radio host Dan Patrick spoke of a development via a source reportedly close to the situation. Patrick referenced a text he received on Tuesday morning, coming from someone he claims is a close source to the Rams coach. He then read the text, which states: “McVay going to the mothership?”

Patrick reportedly responded saying “Oh, really?” The source texted back, “I've been told by a couple of people who would be close enough to Sean. May be leverage, but there is enough interest on both sides that he would be willing to go to ESPN.”

Rams fans would be devastated if this comes to fruition. They are coming off their first Super Bowl win since 1999, but their second Super Bowl appearance in the last four years.

McVay is only 36 years old and is reportedly making $8.5 million per year to coach the Rams. Patrick, however, pointed out that former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is making twice that to call games for CBS.

McVay comes from the Jon Gruden coaching tree. Gruden coached and won a Super Bowl and left coaching to broadcast games. He then returned to the coaching ranks once again. McVay is clearly young enough to do just that. He is engaged to be married and knowing how grueling and time-demanding coaching in the NFL is, there might be more than just smoke here.
