The Los Angeles Rams handed Jalen Ramsey a five-year, $105 million extension earlier this week, making him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

After putting pen to paper, Ramsey revealed his honest feelings leading up to his historic deal with the Rams.

“Words really can't put it into play,” said Ramsey, via Lindsey Thiry in ESPN. “A lot of emotion went through my mind. I felt relieved. I felt like all my hard work had paid off. I felt like — I dunno, I had a lot going on in my mind, really. The trust and the respect that the whole Rams organization has had for me since they traded for me, has meant a lot.”

Ahead of the 2019 trade deadline, the Rams acquired Ramsey in a massive trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Los Angeles surrendered two first-round picks to land the All-Pro cornerback, making him a priority to re-sign for the Rams.

Before signing his new contract, Ramsey was set to play under the fifth-year option with Los Angeles in 2020. Despite making a modest $13.7 million on the fifth-year option, Ramsey was longing for a long-term deal with his new team.

The former first-round pick was constantly asked about his contract in the offseason and no updates were coming from his camp. Nevertheless, Ramsey is relieved to have a deal done and he can be done speaking about his future status with the Rams.

While his extension keeps him with Los Angeles through 2025, he seems interested in finishing his career with them. At the least, the Rams and Ramsey can both focus on the 2020 season with his deal completed ahead of time.
