Preseason depth charts in the NFL are supposed to provide a hint or a peek at what teams are thinking as they gear up for the regular season. Count Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay among the group that couldn't care less what the preseason depth chart is listed at.

LA's first unofficial depth chart listed star wide receiver Cooper Kupp as the starting punt returner. McVay was asked if Kupp will indeed have that role with the Rams in 2021 and via ProFootballTalk, McVay answered bluntly.

“I didn’t see that depth chart if we did,” McVay said. “He won’t be our punt returner.”

It just goes to show that not too much can be put into some of these depth charts early on.

Speaking of the wideout position for the Rams, it's a room filled with a lot of talent and plenty of speed this year. Kupp and Robert Woods will be the starters while guys like DeSean Jackson, Van Jefferson and rookie Tutu Atwell will square off for the spots behind the first two. McVay knows quarterback Matthew Stafford will have plenty of help at the position to work with during the year.

“We’ve got a lot of guys that can run,” McVay said. “There’s a lot of players that make plays down the field. The first thing, like I’ve said all along, is it starts with calling plays that give guys an opportunity to do that.”

After making it to the divisional round of the playoffs a year ago and adding Stafford in the offseason, the Rams have serious Super Bowl aspirations in 2021.
