In the days leading up to the trade deadline, the talk around the Los Angeles Rams was centered around their growing interest in adding another pass rusher to the mix to help their Super Bowl push this season, and they did just that by acquiring Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler Jr.

Los Angeles received Fowler in exchange for a 2019 third-round pick and a 2020 fifth-round selection, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Head coach Sean McVay indicated on Monday that the team was looking to add more of an outside pass-rushing presence that has been lacking for the team this season. Los Angeles has received stellar play from their trio of defensive tackles Aaron Donald, Ndamukong Suh, and Michael Brockers. In fact, Donald currently leads the league with 10.0 sacks through the first eight weeks of the season.

However, the Rams haven't created much pressure on the edge. The hope is that Fowler Jr. can step right in and provide that type of pressure on opposing quarterbacks the rest of the season. The 24-year-old hasn't had the start to the season that he had hoped with eight total tackles, 2.0 sacks, and a forced fumble, but the change of scenery could be huge for him pick it up to be a major factor. Fowler is coming off a 2017 campaign where he posted a career-high 8.0 sacks along with a pair of forced fumbles and fumble recoveries.

Although the Rams are moving on from a pair of draft selections over the next couple of years, the team will not be financially tied to Fowler Jr. beyond this season if things don't work out as he's in the final year of his four-year, $23.5 million rookie deal. At the same time, this is a chance for them to potentially add a long-term piece of the puzzle on the defensive line to further stabilize that unit this year, and maybe more.
