The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a Week 12 bye that has begun with them getting back a key piece to the puzzle defensively in Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib as he was designated for return off the injured reserve on Monday afternoon.

With Talib back on the practice field, he has voiced that he is hoping that he can take the field in his first action since Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings, according to Myles Simmons of TheRams.com.

“The first step is getting off IR, right? So I mean, the first step is done. Now I’ve just got to practice,” Talib said Monday. “Hopefully I look good enough so that the coaches can say I can play on Sunday.”

Since suffering the ankle injury, Talib's absence in the secondary has been notable as the team has struggled against the pass in the last several weeks. The Rams currently rank 19th in the league against the pass while they are allowing 8.1 yards per attempt and a 101.6 opposing quarterback passer rating, which are bot the sixth-highest mark in the NFL. It has seen their secondary struggle to play effectively against opposing high-octane offenses with team lighting them for big yardage plays each week.

The return of Talib allows for Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters to go back to playing at his usual position while the 32-year-old can step back into being the No.1 cornerback on the team. It is a role that the team needs as he has proven to be one of better cover defensive backs in the league throughout his career.

Talib's availability for Sunday's game will all come down to whether he prove this week in practice that he is physically able to hand the workload along with his ankle responding the way it should for him to be back on the field.
