The Los Angeles Rams are crossing their fingers that the team, as well as returning running back Cam Akers, will make the playoffs.

It can be recalled that five months ago, Cam Akers suffered a horrifying Achilles injury in training that put his 2021 season in doubt. With the team in need of depth from a formidable running back, the Rams activated Akers off injured reserve on Saturday.

General manager Les Snead said on Friday that despite Akers being on “day to day” status, the plan is to have him ready for the playoffs.

“That's our vision,” Snead said via NFL.com. “He's really day to day now. Based on everything he's done now and how he's looked, I would take that bet.”

“If you watched him [Akers] do stuff with the performance staff (Thursday), you would think he could carry the ball 40 times on Sunday,” he raved. “The plan is to implement him back into practice settings and make sure he can make football moves, rather than just observing. And from there, it's how that Achilles recovers. We'll be smart about it.”

Rams head coach Sean McVay, on the other hand, had a switch in stance on Akers. From expecting the 23-year-old to be “available to play” in the playoffs, he now echoed Snead's statement stressing, “It's not something that he's going to be ready to go this week. It's going to be a progressive build.”

The Rams will make the playoffs if they managed to beat or tie the Minnesota Vikings today or if the Eagles and Saints each lose or tie. However, one thing certain is that Akers won't play against the Vikings.
