Aaron Donald is the most dominant defensive player in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams, and Michael Brockers believes that an incoming prospect has a chance to be similar to Donald. While making an appearance on the Jim Rome Show, Brockers compared Chase Young to Donald.
Since before the 2019 college football season, Young was regarded as the best defensive player available in this year's draft. After playing his final season at Ohio State, it's safe to say that sentiment is still shared by the majority of scouts.
Of course, Young is an edge rusher, while Donald does most of his damage in the interior. However, both are dominant players that can draw the attention of the opposing offense. When teams face the Rams, they make sure they are aware of where Donald is at all times.
Brockers, who's played with Donald for the past six seasons, has a front-row view of how disruptive the All-Pro defender can be. In his first six seasons, Donald has accumulated 72 sacks, 117 tackles for loss, and 15 forced fumbles. That includes a season where he nearly broke the single-season sack record, 20.5 of them in 2018.
Also, Donald won the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year Award in back-to-back seasons in 2017 and 2018. Taking all of that into consideration, Young has some catching up to do once he enters the NFL.
Even though it's fun to compare players, Young can create his own name by evolving into a premier edge rusher at the next level. Still, ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft, Young continues to draw high praise from some of the current players in the NFL.
