Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay said Tuesday there is no timetable for when linebacker Micah Kiser might return from a pectoral injury he suffered on Saturday night. The only hint that McVay did give at a timetable was that it's a pretty significant injury, which means he will be out for a while.
“There’s no timetable on that,” coach Sean McVay told reporters via Pro Football Talk. “It was a pretty significant injury, though. So he’s going to be out for a while.”
Kiser was expected to be a starter this year and losing him really hurts the Rams defense. McVay was asked if he might return to the field before the end of the season and that isn't something he knows quite yet.
“It’s hard to say right now,” McVay said. “I think a lot of that is predicated on exactly how he’s recovering from all that. But it is a significant injury and as far as that timetable, it’s going to be a while. To say a specific timeline, I can’t say that right now.”
Losing a player to injury anytime is hard, but losing them during the preseason is even tougher and teams have taken different approaches the last few years on how they use the preseason.
Some coaches use their starters a lot, while others sit them completely. McVay said the injury is frustrating, but the team isn't going to change their approach on how they look at the last two preseason games based on one injury.
“We’ve really thought long and hard about what we think is the best approach for our team and I think you have got to always try and avoid some of these things that do occur,” McVay said. “But this is a game that entails a lot of physical things that can occur whether it be at a practice, during some of the games.”
