The Los Angeles Rams made the decision last month to ink Pro Bowl running back Todd Gurley to the most lucrative contract for a running back in league history with a four-year, $60 million extension.

This has now put him in line to be the highest-paid player at his position while keeping him in Los Angeles for the next six seasons. With that in mind, Gurley has voiced that he has to keep the same personal drive in order to continue to perform at an elite level.

The fact that Gurley has already taken the approach to maintain his personal motivation should bode well to him continuing to play like one of the game's best players. He is coming off an impressive 2017 campaign that helped him earn the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award. It was the most productive season of his brief NFL career that saw him lead the league with 2,093 scrimmage yards and 19 total touchdowns that put him in serious consideration for the MVP award.

Gurley also became just the third player in league history to have at least 2,000 scrimmage yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, and more than five touchdowns receptions in a single season, joining Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk and O.J. Simpson. On top of that, the new contract does bring it with an entirely new level of expectations now that he's the highest-paid player at his position as he will have to produce like he's the clear-cut best running back in the NFL.

Nonetheless, this could all set up what could several more highly productive campaigns for Gurley while helping the Rams compete for the Super Bowl over the next six seasons.
