Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was unusually giddy about defensive tackle Aaron Donald's looming contract extension during a recent press conference. As a result, there are now a number of reports that have followed up suggesting the same thing.

Rumors suggest that Donald and the Rams are on the verge of reaching a deal. NFL Reporter Benjamin Albright is the latest to confirm the reports:

It is encouraging to see that progress has finally been made after an offseason filled with nothing but speculation. There have been countless rumors regarding the specifics of Donald's deal. Although they have all been extremely vague, the growing number of reports suggest there finally may be some truth to the matter. McVay's unusual optimism recently seemingly confirms that notion.

Donald and the Rams have been deadlocked in negotiations since last year. He held out so long that he wound up missing the season opener versus the Indianapolis Colts. Fortunately, it did not have an effect on his performance, as he finished the 2017 campaign with 41 tackles, 11.0 sacks, and five forced fumbles en route to Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Although Los Angeles knows full well that Donald is doing what he can to get into game shape, they would still like to avoid the same course of action that was taken last year. The Rams have added some serious star power to the defense, however, it is still going to take some time to get everybody on the same page once he comes back.

That said, it is clear both sides are hoping to reach an agreement as soon as possible.
