Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is regarded as one of the brightest offensive minds in the NFL, but he knows his defensive schemes as well.

McVay was mic-ed up for the Rams' preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, and imparted some wisdom as to what he was seeing from the coaching perspective:

The Rams hired McVay prior to the 2017 season after he had spent three years as the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins, and McVay–the youngest coach in the NFL–instantly revolutionized the offense.

After the Rams ranked dead-last in total offense in 2016, McVay helped the unit improve to 10th in the NFL in 2017 before Jared Goff and co. ranked second in total offense last season, going 13-3 and reaching the Super Bowl in the process.

McVay has become somewhat of a personality for his cadences as well as his photographic memory. Take a look at the clip below, in which McVay accurately recalls every single offensive play from Week 12 of the 2017 regular season against the New Orleans Saints:

Los Angeles has been in the middle of the league in team defense for the last two seasons, despite the fact that defensive tackle Aaron Donald might just be the best individual player in all of football.

Even though opponents were able to move the ball against the Rams, they did rank third in the NFL in interceptions. Sean McVay knows this.

The Rams signed free safety Eric Weddle and linebacker Clay Matthews to be playmakers on the defensive side of the ball, and McVay's growing knowledge of his own defense should only make the Rams more dangerous this season.
