The Tampa Bays are dealing with an uncomfortable situation concerning third-year shortstop Wander Franco. Franco was put on administrative leave by the MLB in August 2023. The Tampa Bay star is being investigated for having a relationship with a minor. More news has broken on the matter, as Franco failed to appear at a summon for his investigation in the Dominican Republic, per ESPN.

Rays star Wander Franco adds fuel to the fire of his minored-relationship investigation

Franco was summoned to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Children and Adolescents in the Dominican Republic for a December 28th meeting. However, agency director Olga Dina Llaverias said Franco never showed up.

The agency's next course of action on Franco is unclear. Still, it has plans to continue to investigate the Rays star's allegations.

“There are a few options in the investigative process, but now is not an opportune time to speak about that,” Dina Llaverias said.

Multiple parties have filed legal action against Franco, who is rumored to have had an inappropriate relationship with at least two minors. No criminal charges have been filed against the Tampa Bay star at this time. The Rays released a statement on Franco at the time of his league leave:

“The Tampa Bay Rays are dedicated to maintaining high standards of integrity both on and off the field. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our fans and followers as this process unfolds. We will have no further statement on this matter until the MLB completes its process,” the team said.

Franco continues to battle his allegations of misconduct as 2024 approaches.
