The Washington Redskins entered the 2020 NFL Draft with a need at tight end. Lucky for them, this was a pretty solid draft at that position.

However, all seven rounds came and went, and Washington did not draft a player at the position. It didn't take long for them to make a move after the event, though.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Washington is planning on signing Thaddeus Moss as an undrafted free agent.

As Schefter mentions, Moss was a tight end at LSU. He's also the son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss.

That last fact made some teams and evaluators cold on Moss. They were afraid that the tight end would be overrated due to his father or be drafted on name alone. Funnily enough, this actually led to him being underrated.

Despite that, Moss was projected to fall somewhere between the third and fifth rounds. So the longer he fell in the draft, the more surprising it was that no one was taking him.

This fall was likely due to a serious foot injury, a Jones fracture that was discovered earlier this year at the NFL Scouting Combine and for which he has since undergone surgery.

However, there were very few knocks on him in college so this is a good investment by Washington. Moss has a good frame, at 6-foot-3 and 249 pounds, and possesses solid athleticism. He has reliable hands and obviously comes from great football blood. The only negatives were on his route running, the fear of overrating him and the offense he played in.

Route running is the only legitimate concern of those three, and he has plenty of time to work on that, especially considering his father is one of the greatest of all-time when it comes to mastering the route tree.

Moss racked up 47 receptions for 570 yards and four touchdowns in 2019. In an absolutely loaded LSU offense, the fact that he could still boast that much production is impressive.

With Washington's tight end situation looking pretty barren, there's a very real shot for Moss to carve out a role immediately. Could he come out from under his father's shadow and put together an amazing NFL career himself? He certainly has the talent for it.

Side note: No. 84 is currently held by Darvin Kidsey on the Redskins. Just something to think about.
