The Colorado Rockies have once again found themselves at the bottom of the NL West standings. But with a top prospect now reaching the major league level, the Rockies now have a reason to be excited.

Prior to their game on Sunday, Colorado called up prospect Adael Amador from Double-A, via ESPN. In turn, fellow infielder Brendan Rodgers was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.

Rodgers picked up his injury on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals. After taking Saturday off, Colorado decided the injury required a trip to the IL. There is no word on exactly how much time Rodgers might miss.

It's a big blow for a Rockies team in need of healthy bodies and any form of success. Rodgers was starting to find his stroke, hitting .333 with two home runs and nine RBI over his last 12 games. Through the entire 2024 season, Rodgers is hitting .275 with three home runs, 22 RBI and a stolen base over 59 games.

But for now, the Rockies will now turn their attention to Amador. Calling him up directly from Double-A, clearly Colorado has been impressed with what they've seen. The Rockies don't have much to lose with an already poor 23-42 record. While he'll fill in for Rodgers in the short-term, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Colorado give Amador a real chance to stick around at the major league level.

He played second base on Sunday and occupied the eighth spot in the order. Amador went 1-for-3 with a stolen base as the Rockies fell 5-1 to the Cardinals.

While wins won't be a premium in Colorado, the development of Adael Amador certainly will be. Now officially in the major leagues, the Rockies can finally see exactly what their top prospect is made of.

Amador signed with Colorado as an international free agent in the 2019-20 window. Immediately, his path to the majors was hit with a roadblock when CO-VID19 struck. But once given an opportunity to play again, Amador showed he had true potential.

Over 47 games of rookie ball in 2021, Amador hit .299 with four home runs, 24 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He followed that up with a phenomenal season in Single-A, hitting .292 with 15 home runs, 57 RBI and 26 stolen bases.

Once Amador hit Double-A, some struggles started to brew. Over 56 total games at the level, the infielder has hit .185 with eight home runs, 26 RBI and 25 stolen bases. In 2024, he was hitting .194 with seven home runs, 24 RBI and 22 stolen bases.

While the batting average is questionable, there's no denying Amador's speed. He also showed how he can impact the game in that regard in his debut. The infielder also ranks as one of the best prospects in the game as both the No. 1 in Colorado's organization and No. 32 overall, via MLB Pipeline. The Rockies will want him to get more consistent at the plate, but his base stealing ability and overall pedigree is what got him the call to the majors.

With Ezequiel Tovar at shortstop, Colorado is starting an extremely young middle infield. But they need to try everything as they look to pick up wins. It may have come earlier than expect, but Adael Amador is now here to help the cause. He'll add some more excitement and speed to every Rockies game he appears in.
