After sitting out the last three shows, the Rolling Stones‘ “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” has returned to their 2024 “Hackney Diamonds” tour setlist. They scared fans when Mick Jagger began taking an extended mid-set break and dropped the song from the encore.

During the Stones' show at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado, they played a tour-high 20 songs. Keith Richards still got to sing three songs — “Tell Me Straight,” “Little T&A,” and “Happy.”

For the past three shows, they only played “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” in their encore. Previously, the Stones paired it with “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” It was recorded with Lady Gaga and was the second single from Hackney Diamonds. Dropping it and Jagger's extended absences in the middle of the set worried fans.

Luckily, they may have found the best of both worlds. Jagger still gets a three-song rest in the middle of the show. And fans can still hear “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.”

What is Hackney Diamonds?

Hackney Diamonds is the Rolling Stones' twenty-fourth studio album. However, it is the band's first album of original music since 2005's A Bigger Bang. They released Blue and Lonesome in 2016, an album of blues covers.

Before the album came out, the Stones released two singles. “Angry” was first released on September 6, 2023, with “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” following on September 28. “Mess It Up” was released as a single the same day the album dropped, October 20.

The album was the Stones' first since the death of drummer Charlie Watts. In turn, they turned to some friends to collaborate with them. Andrew Watt produced the album and Elton John, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and former Rolling Stones bassist Billy Wyman featured on the album.

In support of the album, the Rolling Stones are embarking on the “Hackney Diamonds” tour, a 20-show journey that commenced on April 28, 2024. They are playing in major stadiums across North America and will conclude the tour with a show in Ridgedale, Missouri on July 21.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood are all present for the tour. They are backed by the likes of Chanelle Haynes and Darryl Jones.
