Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Geno Smith was one of the biggest surprises of the 2022 season. After many counted out the veteran quarterback, he proved to be one of the most dominant forces in the entire league.

After earning the starting job following the trade of Russell Wilson, Smith stuffed the stat sheet. He finished the season throwing for 4,282 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and just 11 interceptions. On the ground, he added 366 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 68 total carries.

Following his explosive season, Smith is now set to hit free agency. But neither he nor the Seahawks plan to part ways. Geno Smith has already made his wish to stay with the team known. Now General Manager John Schneider has also said the same.

On Wednesday, Schneider spoke with reporters. During the conversation, he was asked if the team expected to re-sign Geno Smith. According to The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar, Schneider stated, “Yeah, we do.”

Schneider also added that the team would like to bring back quarterback Drew Lock. He stated, “Yeah, we’d love to. We think that’d be an ideal situation.”

The Seahawks found success with their quarterback room last season. With Smith leading the charge, they finished with a 9-8 record and a trip to the playoffs. Along with a top pick in the 2023 NFL draft, they have assembled a solid core.

There is a sense that the Seahawks are confident with Smith as their QB1. With free agency set to begin in the near future, a deal could come sooner than later for the two sides.
