After topping the NFC West in 2020, the Seattle Seahawks are the lone team in the division to miss the playoffs this 2021. With that, questions about Pete Carroll's future with the franchise abound.
Will the Seahawks finally move on from Carroll and look for a coach who can take them to the next level? If you'll ask Carroll, though, he is staying optimistic about his future with the team.
“I'm in great shape,” Carroll said when asked about the doubts with regards to his job as Seattle head coach, per Mike Dugar of The Athletic.
The Seahawks did finish the season on a good note, winning two straight games including their Week 18 victory against the Arizona Cardinals. However, it was too little, too late with Seattle having zero chance to make the postseason.
Pete Carroll and Co. finished with a 7-10 record, making them the only NFC West team with a losing record. As mentioned, it was far from their dominant 12-4 showing from last year. The veteran tactician has a solid track record, but his inability to guide Russell Wilson and Co. past the divisional round since their Super Bowl win in 2014 is getting concerning.
For what it's worth, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported recently that the Seahawks will be meeting with Carroll to decide his future. A case can be made that he has been a brilliant coach for the team, but the fact of the matter is he has only one Super Bowl title to show in over a decade running the Seattle franchise.
