The Seattle Seahawks announced Friday that future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson will not play Sunday vs the Houston Texans.

Peterson reportedly suffered a lower back injury at Wednesday's practice and will not play this week. The aging veteran has dealt with injuries for a few years now and is on his second team of the season. Earlier this year, the Tennessee Titans signed Peterson after losing Derrick Henry to a foot injury.

Peterson struggled with Tennessee and was ultimately cut by the Titans and eventually picked up by the Seahawks.

Seattle has dealt with their fair share of injuries to running backs. They placed Chris Carson on season-ending injured reserve earlier this season. Alex Collins has been bothered by an abdomen injury lately.

The Seahawks also ruled out Travis Homer earlier Friday.

Collins missed Week 13's win vs the San Francisco 49ers but appears to be suiting up this week. He will be joined by Rashaad Penny and DeeJay Dallas as the only healthy running backs on the roster.

Collins is expected to be the lead rusher of the group. When Carson went down with a neck injury back in Week 4, Collins took over as the lead ball carrier. However, outside of a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6, Alex Collins and the Seattle running game has been putrid.

Seattle ranks 24th in the NFL in rushing. A lot of that was due to the three good weeks of Chris Carson.

Not all of the news is bad though. It appears as though DK Metcalf will play Sunday. He and teammate Tyler Lockett both surpassed 60 yards receiving in the same game for the first time since Week 1. Russell Wilson might be busy Sunday again.
