The Seattle Seahawks appear to be working on a deal with defensive end Frank Clark, but for now it appears the team will be using their franchise tag on him.

Clark is reportedly in talks for a long term deal with the team, but since he was still under his rookie contract it's not out of the realm of possibilities that deal could happen after this season.

The franchise tag could also be buying time for the team before they get an official deal done.

Seattle better hope they retain Clark considering he has been their most consistent pass rusher in recent years and continues to average double-digit sacks each season.

Clark had 13.0 sacks this past season and his first career interception as well. Unfortunately for Clark, the Seahawks defense is nowhere near the unit it once was a handful of years ago. For now, Clark remains one of the teams' best players and could very well start the second coming of the “Legion of Boom.”

The Seahawks have a solid defensive unit right now lead by Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, and Clark, but the secondary could use some more polished players and Clark could use some help.

Clark is really the only pass rusher on the team that has performed on a consistent basis. The team will likely be losing safety Earl Thomas and there's a possibility Wright doesn't get resigned.

The Seahawks will need players like Clark to continue to put the defense on their back heading into next season.
