Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas is set to play vs. the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday despite missing practice this week. However, that doesn’t mean that he won’t be punished for his sudden absences.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Seahawks are considering handing Thomas a “significant fine” for conduct detrimental to the team because of his two missed practices this past week. However, no final decision has yet to be made.

It’s hardly a secret that the relationship between Thomas and the Seahawks is not in a good place at this point. Thomas held out for the entire offseason due to a contract dispute with the team and still hasn't gotten what he's requested from the team: a new contract or a trade.

The Seahawks did not seem interested in engaging Thomas on contract extension talks. They also continue to rebuff potential trade offers for Thomas as they insist on teams meeting the high price they’ve set for the All-Pro safety.

Thomas eventually ended his holdout just ahead of the season, but he posted on Instagram upon his return that he wouldn’t forget the “disrespect” the team treated him with this offseason.

At this point, a trade would be a win-win situation for both Thomas and the Seahawks. There are too many hurt feelings at this point, and Thomas’ recent absences in practice are likely a manifestation of that festering resentment.

But unless the Seahawks decide to bring down their asking price for Thomas, they may just have to continue to deal with these sorts of incidents with their unhappy star veteran.
