The Seattle Seahawks have some major backfield concerns heading into the 2020 NFL season. As a result, they could be looking secure an established running back like Devonta Freeman to help fill the void.

Running back Rashaad Penny suffered a torn ACL in Week 14 and is still in the midst fo a lengthy recovery. According to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio, the Seahawks are reportedly interested in Freeman, via Joe Dolan of Fantasy Points:

Just said Seahawks have made an offer to Devonta Freeman because they don't think Rashaad Penny will be ready for Week 1.

Freeman is asking for more than the offer. Seahawks holding their position.

Adding Freeman would provide a major boost to this injury-riddled backfield. Of course, it will need to come at the right price if Seattle is hoping to get some back for their buck. Unfortunately, they may not have much of a choice given the lack of alternative options.

Running back Chris Carson also suffered ended his season with a late injury after he suffered a fractured hip in Week 16. Although a timetable for his return is not expected to be as long as Penny's, the Seahawks may have to consider tempering his workload to start the 2020 campaign.

Seattle made efforts to shore up some depth in the backfield by taking DeeJay Dallas in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Regardless, Freeman would serve as a much more viable contingency option given his track record as a former workhorse for the Atlanta Falcons. His versatile skill set would also offer up some flexibility alongside Carson and, eventually, Penny.
