Philadelphis 76ers head coach Brett Brown shared his supportive response to Joel Embiid's comments on Friday in which the Sixers center implied that he considers himself the top player in basketball.

“Being the best player in the world, I just intend to keep coming out every single night and just play hard and trying to get wins and just go out and try to win a championship,” Embiid said after dropping 39 points and 16 boards in an overtime win over the Brooklyn Nets, per ESPN.

Brown seemed to have no problem with Embiid's claim if it motivates the All-Star. In fact, he said that while Embiid may not be the game's best player yet, he thinks “he has a chance to be” and doesn't “believe he's that far off.”

“I'm the only coach he's had, and because I have learned, that this motivates him. If this is his trigger, if this what gets Joel going. I love him,” Brett Brown said. “I feel like what he does that we all should understand and acknowledge is there's always been a mischievous side, there's always been a playful side to Joel Embiid, and in many ways he uses that as his own compass. It keeps him on track. He doesn't voice out things and not intend on owning it.”

For what it's worth, Joel Embiid and the team's somewhat underwhelming season has irked Sixers fans. His numbers are relatively excellent, but his 23.3 points per game rate is down over four points from his 2018-19 scoring average.

Moreover, Embiid's questionable fitness and effort recently had him on the receiving end of some signature Philly booing. The Cameroonian big man has been trying to make amends though, and the Sixers' current four-game winning streak is undoubtedly the best way to star and back up his talk.
