The one thing every NBA team wants to avoid in the preseason is injuries. Unfortunately for Wilson Chandler and the Philadelphia 76ers, that didn't transpire Friday night. The Sixers took on the Australian professional team Melbourne United at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia to open their preseason play, and Chandler suffered a left hamstring injury. He did not return to the game.

The Sixers acquired Wilson Chandler from the Denver Nuggets during the offseason. Chandler will earn $12.8 million this season and become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019.

Chandler played in 74 regular season games for Denver last year and averaged 10.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. The veteran swingman shot 44.5 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.2 percent from the free-throw line. The Sixers traded for Chandler to maintain financial flexibility and reduce their luxury tax bill. Head coach Brett Brown said Chandler would be a key piece to the team this season and likes the forward's versatility.

For his career, Chandler has averaged 13.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 590 games with the New York Knicks and Nuggets. During the regular season, Chandler will come off the Sixers' bench and back up starter Robert Covington at the small forward spot.
