Nicolas Cage will be voicing the lead role in a Spider-Man Noir series for Prime Video and MGM+.

On May 14, Prime Video announced the series, titled Noir.

“The story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city's one and only superhero,” the announcement begins. “Noir, starring Nicolas Cage, is coming to MGM+ and Prime Video.”

The announcement also reveals that Oren Uziel, Steve Lightfoot, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal will executive produce the series. Previously, neither Uziel nor Lightfoot have worked on the Spider-Verse series. However, Lord, Miller, and Pascal produced the Spider-Verse films.

Phil Lord also developed the story for both Spider-Verse films. Miller co-wrote the script for Beyond the Spider-Verse with Lord and Dave Callaham. Amy Pascal is known for her work which includes producing Sony's recent Spider-Man films.

The Spider-Verse franchise began in 2018 with Into the Spider-Verse. The animated Spider-Man film was a box office hit, grossing over $380 million at the box office. It also won Best Animated Feature at the Oscars.

In 2023, a sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, was released. The film was an even bigger hit, grossing nearly $700 million at the box office. However, unlike its predecessor, the film didn't win Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, losing to Studio Ghibli's The Boy and the Heron.

Who is Spider-Man Noir?

Into the Spider-Verse featured the introduction of Spider-Man Noir. Cage voiced the character, who was a drastically different iteration of the character. Unfortunately, Cage did not return for the sequel, Across the Spider-Verse. Spider-Man Noir is seen at the end of the film as Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) assembles a team to save Miles Morales (Shameik Moore).

It was reported in February 2024 that Cage was in talks to reprise the role for a Prime Video series. This didn't come as a surprise, as Cage has spoken highly about the character in past interviews.
