The Phoenix Suns are not messing around in free agency. After quickly securing Chris Paul to a massive extension, the Suns have now turned their attention to former NBA champion JaVale McGee.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, McGee has just agreed to a one-year deal with the Suns:

There did not appear to be too much interest in JaVale McGee in free agency, except for reports that he was “definitely” considering returning to the Denver Nuggets next season. As it turns out, however, the Nuggets were not interested in renewing McGee's deal — or at least not for $5 million.

The Suns, on the other hand, were more than happy to pay McGee. Phoenix will now have some added depth to their frontcourt, which is currently spearheaded by one of the biggest breakout stars from last season in Deandre Ayton. Dario Saric is also still in contract with Phoenix while backup center Frank Kaminsky has become a free agent.

McGee has been around the block for quite some time now and he has a ton of experience under his belt — not to mention an NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers last year. His championship experience alone should already provide significant value for a young Suns squad.

For his part, McGee played just 13 games for the Nuggets last season following a mid-season trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. He averaged 5.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game in just 13.5 minutes off the bench. It wasn't exactly a stellar stint for McGee in Denver, but as it turns out, he's done enough to earn him a $5 million deal with the Suns for 2021-22.
