Terence Crawford has had an impressive boxing career. Crawford has an undefeated record and has won titles in multiple classes. As of 2023, he is the unified welterweight champion. The 36-year-old beat Errol Spence Jr. in a competitive welterweight matchup in July. Thus, Crawford has made a bold ‘Fighter of the Year' claim.

Terence Crawford believes he is the best boxer in 2023

Crawford took to X to defend his claim:

“I'm the only fighter to beat a top five pound for pound this year and the way I beat him was unmatched,” Crawford said, via his X account. “2023 Fighter of the Year is me. Some might say that I only fought 1 time, but that 1 fight was bigger than any of the others.”

Crawford won a dominating welterweight title match against Errol Spence Jr. The Omaha native beat Spence in the ninth round with a barrage of punches that had to be stopped by the referee. Thus, Crawford became the undisputed welterweight champion of the world with the win.

Spence was no slouch. He entered the fight against Crawford with a 28-0 record. He acknowledged Crawford's impressive performance; however, he wanted a rematch with the boxing star.

“We got to do it again…I'm going to be a lot better. It's going to be a lot closer,” Spence said.

The rematch between Crawford and Spence has not happened yet, but the self-proclaimed 2023 Fighter of the Year shined during the first matchup.
