When Patrick Mahomes signed his historic extension with the Kansas City Chiefs, the attention turned toward Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans. And it indeed appears that he's the next quarterback to get handsomely paid. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Watson has signed a massive four-year extension with Houston.

Mahomes' historic deal with the Chiefs is worth $503 million over the span of 10 years. On the other hand, per Schefter, Watson's newly signed contract with the Texans is going to be worth up to a total of $177 million.

Aside from Mahomes' insane extension, Watson will have the largest contract in the NFL. On top of that, his $111 million in guarantees will be the largest guarantee in a contract in league history.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Watson and the Texans were working toward an extension before the 2020 season. Seeing that they agreed upon a deal, it appears both sides were on the same page in negotiations. At the same time, it proves that Watson is committed to being the franchise quarterback of the Texans.

Since being selected with the No. 12 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Watson has been remarkable for Houston. In the past two seasons alone, the Clemson product has averaged 4,008 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

Back when the Texans completed the head-scratching trade involving DeAndre Hopkins, some wondered if Watson would want to remain in Houston. Despite the questionable moves the organization has made, their decision to extend Watson won't be criticized. And now the attention shifts to the other team in Texas, as we wait to see what they do with Dak Prescott.
