Last week, Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson described the intricacies of the Cover-4 defense the Carolina Panthers used to beat him. On Sunday, after demolishing the Atlanta Falcons defense, Watson is back with a description of the defense he played.

Said Watson post-game:

“They play a lot of man. Different variations of man. They played a lot of diamond front — which is five across, the center's head out the two guards are covered up, the two wide-ends with Vic Beasley and [Tak] McKinley and the linebacker Deion [Jones]. Sometimes they play man, sometimes they drop out and play Tampa [2].

They do a little bit of zone. They try to do it in — their pressure in empty was to try to bring the star, press him, and cap the safety. But I just threw hot both times… Then, different blitz zone packages. They played Cover-6, zoned it off. They played diamond too and popped out. So, they played a lot of different things.

Watson went on to explain how the Falcons defended his offense in the red zone. The whole video is here.

Though the Falcons played “a lot of different things,” according to Watson, none of them worked against the Texans. The third-year quarterback toasted their defense to the tune of 28 of 33 for 426 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions; good for a perfect 158.3 passer rating. He is the only player in NFL history to throw less than five incompletions and throw for 400-plus yards and five-plus touchdowns in a game.

Next week, Watson has the opportunity to describe the Kansas City Chiefs offense.
