According to a Tuesday afternoon report from Mark Berman of FOX 26 KRIV, the Houston Texans will be bringing back cornerback Vernon Hargreaves for the 2020-21 season. According to the same report, the two sides have agreed to a one-year free agent contract to allow Hargreaves to make his return to Houston.

It is also worth noting that the Texans previously waived Hargreaves back on February 14th as his future with the AFC South franchise remained up in the air for more than a month.

A 2016 first-round NFL Draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former Florida Gators standout has not quite lived up to the initial hype surrounding him as a rookie from a few tears back. After a shorter stint than anticipated with the Buccaners, he was then placed on waivers by Tampa Bay before ultimately being claimed by the Texans on November 13th last season.

“We claimed him, he came in here, he works very hard,” Texans head coach Bill O’Brien told reporters upon originally claiming the former Buccaneers defensive back off waivers last season, via USA TODAY Sports. “Very hard worker, guy that really showed up to practice every day, learned the system. I don’t think that’s easy to be able to come in, in the middle of a season, and really later than that, and play that nickel position is not easy. So, I give a lot of credit to Vernon.”

In addition to retaining Hargreaves, the Texans have also agreed to re-sign fellow cornerback Bradley Roby, who garnered a three-year, $36 million contract from Houston.
