The Houston Texans seem to have a bit of turmoil in regards to their general manager position. Last week, the Texans fired Brian Gaine as their GM and have been conducting a search for his replacement since.

Although, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Texans will not hire a general manager for the 2019 season. This news comes after Houston tried to lure Nick Caserio from the New England Patriots to become their new general manager.

The Patriots filed tampering charges against the Texans for trying to get Caserio though. The NFL began an investigation into the situation but the Patriots dropped the charges after the Texans agreed to not go after Caserio.

Currently, Caserio serves as the Patriots Director of Player Personnel. He's held that position with the franchise since 2008.

For the Texans, they fired Gaine as their GM just 17 months into his contract. According to reports, the tension between him and Bill O'Brien was one of the main reasons for the move.

If the Texans do in fact choose to not hire a GM, then O'Brien, Jack Easterby, and the scouting department could all share responsibilities of the general manager.

This whole situation is a mess no matter how you look at it. First, the Texans admit they selected the wrong guy in Gaine. Then, they fail to have any possible candidates to replace him when they fire him.

Lastly, they decide to end their search (if you can consider it that) and have nobody in the GM role. O'Brien could be heading into a crucial season in 2019 but it doesn't help that there are problems in the front office.
