Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller is coming off a spectacular performance against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5. It seems he has an idea of what helped cause his stellar outing.

There is no question that Fuller served as the focal point of the Texans' offense. Regardless, he feels that their run game is what helped open things up for him to take advantage of the Falcons' secondary, via Avery Duncan of the Texans Wire:

“Yeah, run game, we’ve got to start off running the ball every week,” said Fuller after the win. “That’s going to open up a lot of things in the pass game. And it gets the whole team going, the whole offense going, the crowd. Running the ball, that starts off everything.”

It is undoubtedly encouraging to see Fuller give props to his teammates on the back of the best performance of his career. Having a strong run certainly helps when the time comes to take the top off the defense. Houston backfield was able to oblige with Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson combining for 119 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Despite their success in the run game, it is safe to say that it did not take much for Fuller to take advantage of the porous Atlanta secondary after finishing with 217 yards and three touchdowns on 14 receptions. This type of breakout performance was just what he needed to get on the right track following a slow start to the 2019 NFL season.

Although the Texans are known for their passing attack behind quarterback Deshaun Watson, they have clearly put an emphasis on establishing a balanced approach.
