Few details about the sequel have been shared, with the director Matt Reeves only offering small teases of what audiences may expect in his next Batman film. Most of the teases have been around films potential villain or villains, as the director hasn't been shy about hinting at the possibility of seeing multiple members of Batman's rogues gallery.

One of the longest-rumored villains for the sequel was the shape-shifting Clayface, though this was shot down by new DC Studios head James Gunn. Another report suggested the villain could be Hush, who is a more recent member of Batman's collection of villains.

Hush, also known as Tommy Elliot, is a gifted surgeon who was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne from another of Gotham City's rich and affluent families. Elliot attempted on multiple occasions, unsuccessfully, to kill his own parents to inherit their wealth and grew to resent Wayne after the death of his own parents. When he got older, he disguised himself as the villainous Hush and worked with Riddler to try and destroy the lives of both Bruce Wayne and Batman.
