The Denver Broncos have won three Super Bowls in their history, and even in years they didn't win the big game, they have had plenty of successful seasons. Narrowing it down to just one team in Broncos history that is the best is tough, but it's hard to ignore a team's first Super Bowl win. Heading into the 1997 season, the Broncos were angry about the way the 1996 season ended, and they wanted some revenge.

During the 1996 season, the Broncos were 13-3- during the regular season. After a first-round bye, the Broncos hosted the Jacksonville Jaguars. A game that shouldn't have given them much trouble, but the Broncos ended up losing by three points.

The 1997 team was loaded with talent, and anything short of a Super Bowl victory was going to be underperforming. The Broncos were coached by Mike Shanahan and led on offense by John Elway, Terrell Davis, and Shannon Sharpe, among others.

The defense has some playmakers, but overall when the team struggled, it was the defense that let them down. To open the season, Denver's defense did have one of it's best games, though, letting the Kansas City Chiefs score only three points on the way to a victory. In the next three weeks, the Broncos won because of the offense, which put up at least 35 points in each of the games.

In Week 5, it was the offense again that was the difference putting up 29 points against the Atlanta Falcons. The following week, both sides of the ball were good against the New England Patriots winning 34-13. The running game was the difference in that game with Davis rushing 32 times for 172 yards and two touchdowns.

Week 7 was a bye week, and it seemed to take a little wind out of the sails for the Broncos. The offense was still good against the Oakland Raiders putting up 25 points, but Denver's defense put them down, giving up 28 points.

Each of the next two weeks against the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks, the Broncos were tested, but they came away with three-point victories.

Week 11 was a victory over the Carolina Panthers in a shutout fashion, but in Week 12, it was another hard-fought loss, being beat by the Chiefs by two points. To close out the season, the Broncos went 3-2 with the two losses coming in Week 15 and 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers.

Denver finished with a 12-4 record, but with a competitive AFC, they still had to play during Wild Card Weekend. During Wild Card weekend, the Broncos faced off with the Jaguars, the team that had knocked them off the previous season. This time they got a little revenge winning 42-17. In the Divisional round against the Chiefs, the defense stepped up in a big way, which led to a 14-10 victory.

In the AFC Championship, it was a tough battle against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Broncos defense stepped up in a big way again, picking off Kordell Stewart three times. That put the offense in good positions and was enough to come away with a three-point victory.

In Super Bowl XXXII, the Broncos had to get through Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. Elway only threw for 123 yards in this game, but that was okay, because of how much success Davis had. He rushed 30 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns. For his efforts, Davis was named the MVP of the game.

Elway and Davis were the stars of the offense the entire season, but there were also some receivers who had significant impacts. Ed McCaffery had 45 receptions for 590 yards along with Sharpe, who finished his season catching 72 passes for 1,107 yards.

The Broncos won their first Super Bowl, which makes this the best team in franchise history.
