Marvel and the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as well as Disney+, is hoping The Falcon and the Winter Soldier release date gets hit with so much attention that the streaming platform can overtake its rivals.

A couple of weeks after the end of WandaVision and the Marvel Cinematic Universe returns to the small screen with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it's latest series that will stream on Disney Plus. The series was first unveiled, along with WandaVision and Loki, another upcoming series that will be released in June, in an advertisement in Super Bowl 54 last year.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Release Date: March 19

Since then, production on the series was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which also delayed its release. But a year after it was first teased and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had its trailer air during Super Bowl 55 last month, which gave fans a better idea of what the story will be for the titular characters. But more importantly, it gave a specific date on when the next installment of the MCU will grace televisions.

The first episode of the series will premiere on Friday, March 19, on Disney+, and will run for six episodes in its first season. The streaming service will then air one episode every Friday until the Season 1 finale on April 23, 2021. This follows the trend that Disney+ has had since it started, in contrast to the method used by Netflix of releasing an entire season of a series to be binge-watched.

According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, per IGN, each episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will run for 45-55, which is slightly longer than the usual episode length of WandaVision. While details about the series’ plot are scarce, the trailer suggests that it will be very different from the story of Wanda Maximoff that began the MCU’s Phase Four and focused on her grief over the loss of Vision.

Scenes from the trailer include Sam Wilson or The Falcon and Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier being in several action-packed fights. According to its official description, the series will focus on the two heroes teaming up for a global adventure.

“The pair, who came together in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame, team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience.”

Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will stream exclusively on Disney+ starting March 19.
