Alongside Daredevil and Kingpin, several veterans of Netflix's Marvel series are set to make their return as official members of the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again. Jon Bernthal's Punisher is set to be one of the biggest returns for the Disney Plus series, and fans have gotten a first look at the vigilante dressed and ready for action.

Daredevil: Born Again has been shooting in New York City and, as a result, plenty of set photos have been finding their way online for fans to get a peek at the new Disney Plus series. The Punisher was the focus of the latest batch of photos that show a bloody Bernthal in full costume alongside Charlie Cox's Daredevil, seemingly in the middle of a fight against an unknown adversary or adversaries, according to Variety.

Like Cox's Daredevil, it appears Marvel Studios is keeping the look established for The Punisher across his multiple appearances in Netflix's Marvel series.

“Call me…The Punisher”

Bernthal made his first appearance as Frank Castle in season two of Netflix's Daredevil, serving as the focal point for the first third of the season. He comes intro conflict with Daredevil when he begins a killing spree targeting various gangs across New York City with the goal of finding the gang responsible for gunning down his wife and kids. He is eventually caught and put on trial, but fakes his death to escape prison with Matt Murdock's help before returning the favor in the season finale by helping Daredevil defeat The Hand.

He next appears as the star of his own series, The Punisher, with the first season revealing his family's death was part of a larger conspiracy involving the CIA-unit Castle served in while in the military. Season two throws Castle back into the fire, this time to save a young girl from another conspiracy and his former-best friend, while questioning if he should commit himself fully to being The Punisher.

Bernthal's portrayal of The Punisher was very well received by fans and critics, alike, with the former being vocal on social media about Marvel Studios bringing him back after Netflix cancelled all their Marvel-related series. That hope only intensified with the announcement of Daredevil: Born Again and confirmation that both Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio would be returning to portray Daredevil and Kingpin, respectively.

Marvel Studios confirmed Bernthal would indeed return as The Punisher for Daredevil: Born Again in March 2023. The actor said he was excited to be stepping back into the role and made it clear he would work to ensure the character did justice to his previous portrayals and the comics.

“I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right, and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank,” Bernthal previously told Collider. “I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”

Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus in 2025.
