Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor likes the job interim head coach Ryan Saunders is doing and says the young coach has a chance to become the full-time head coach this summer.

The Timberwolves are 10-11 under Saunders, who replaced Tom Thibodeau in January:

“I think he has a good chance [to get the job full-time],” Taylor told Sid Hartman of the Star Tribune. “It’s like everything, we’re going to wait until we play out these last 20-some games and I think we’ll know and he’ll know at that time if it works out. But he is off to a good start.

“I would just say I really like him as a person. I have known him since he was a young man, and I am really pleased with how he is starting out coaching this team.”

Ryan Saunders is the son of the late Flip Saunders. He had been an assistant coach with the Timberwolves since 2014 before taking on the interim head coaching job, and he was with the Washington Wizards before that.

The Timberwolves are in 11th place in the Western Conference standings. Saunders can help his cause to get the full-time job by leading Minnesota to the postseason for the second consecutive season. Either way, though, it looks like Ryan Saunders is in good standings with Glen Taylor.
