The Minnesota Vikings managed to strike first during Monday night's duel against the San Francisco 49ers at home, with wide receiver Jordan Addison catching a touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins in the opening quarter. With that touchdown, Minnesota got early control of momentum — and also ended a 49ers' streak in the 2023 NFL regular season, per ESPN Stats & Info.

“Jordan Addison now has 5 TD catches this season, 2 more than any other rookie. This is the first time this season the 49ers have not scored first. The Ravens are the only team left to score first in every game.”

The Vikings need the likes of Addison to step up amid the multi-week absence of star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. So far, Addison has been delivering the goods consistently for Minnesota. He entered the Niners game with 277 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 22 receptions this season and his latest touchdown has extended his TD streak to three games. That it came against the stout defense of San Francisco should only further boost the confidence of the rookie wideout, who was taken in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Vikings.

Addison's touchdown also comes on the heels of the 49ers' shocking loss at home to the Cleveland Browns in Week 6. The score San Francisco gave up to the former USC Trojans star could also be a sign of cracks in the 49ers' defense that started the day ranked second overall in the NFL with just 14.5 points allowed per game and second with only 1.3 touchdowns surrendered per contest.
