The honeymoon phase for DeMarcus Cousins and the Golden State Warriors is officially over. Even after perhaps his most disappointing performance of the season, though, Golden State's All-Star big man is fully confident the “bad days” will end “sooner than later.”

“It's definitely frustrating,” he told The Athletic's Anthony Slater after the Warriors' 118-112 loss to the Houston Rockets on Saturday at Oracle Arena. “A lot of shots aren't falling for me, but just keep working at it. There's no doubt in my mind it will come around to me, hopefully sooner than later. But like I said, this is a process…

“There’s gonna be good days and a lot of bad days through this process,” Cousins continued. “Obviously I’m in the bad days right now.”

The four-time All-Star had 13 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, three steals, four blocks, and five turnovers in 27 minutes against Houston. He was benched for the final six minutes of the game, as Steve Kerr opted for a more versatile defensive option at center for crunch time in the fleet-footed Jordan Bel.

This is indeed the low point for Cousins' brief tenure with Golden State, but that hardly means there isn't room for optimism – and not just because an ongoing dynasty added a superstar big man to the fold. Cousins is already acknowledging the specific area in which he needs to improve, too.

“Guys are attacking me in the pick-and-roll. It’s obvious, he said. “I just gotta be ready for it, prepare for it. Then I just gotta stay out of f****** foul trouble. Jesus Christ.”

The bad news: James Harden didn't even play on Saturday.
