Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green has been dealing with a sprained left ankle throughout the preseason and was recently cleared to begin practicing with the team in full capacity. While this appeared to be a step in the right direction for Green to possibly be ready to go on opening night, the Warriors are going to have to face Kevin Durant and the Suns without him.

On Monday, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters that while Green participated in practice and a controlled scrimmage, the team would like to give him a little bit more time to health and train, according to ESPN's Kendra Andrews. As a result, he will not be playing in the first game of the season on Tuesday night.

“I do feel good,” Green told the media recently. “I don’t feel all the way 100% myself, but I’m getting there.”

Green missed almost all of the Warriors' preseason activities and did not participate in any of their preseason games as a result of his ankle sprain. Seeing as this is just one game at the start of the regular-season, the Warriors are not wanting to risk Green taking the floor in a competitive game only for him to re-injure his ankle.

Playing in 73 games last season, Green averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game while shooting 52.7 percent from the floor. Known for his defensive versatility and playmaking abilities out on the perimeter, the Warriors will be left thin in their frontcourt without Draymond.

Newly acquired veteran Chris Paul will likely draw his first start in a Warriors uniform against his former team as a result of Green being out, as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney are expected to be the other four starters. Third-year forward Jonathan Kuminga should be the first player to enter the game off the bench in wake of Draymond Green's absence.
