Former Seattle Supersonics forward Kevin Durant may be playing in front of Seattle fans once again this October for a preseason game.

Durant responded to the report from the Sacramento Bee that the Golden State Warriors will be playing against the Sacramento Kings at Key Arena, the old home of the Sonics when the Oklahoma City Thunder franchise was still located in Seattle.

“If that’s true I’m looking forward to going out there and playing in front of the fans like when I first came into the league,” Durant told reporters. “It’s going to be a dope experience if that happens.”

“Just the fans, man. I remember pregame… the Seattle Sonics culture was deep with regards to the tradition. You see fans that have been there for ages come to the games, and still come to a random game on Tuesday to show support. It’s always about the people, always about [Seattle], always passionate about the [Sonics franchise]. It would be cool to have some basketball there.”

This is a major step for Seattle which hopes to own an NBA franchise again. The fans never wanted to move the team, and this might be a preview of a better future ahead for the city as they hope to see the Sonics take flight in their arena once more.

Durant was drafted by the Supersonics as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. He played for a year in Seattle where he won the Rookie of the Year award prior to the franchise being relocated to Oklahoma City.

In that singular season with the Sonics, Durant put up 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game.
