The FIBA World Cup is officially underway. The tournament is being held across three countries; Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines. So far, Team USA is off to a good start. They're 3-0 having defeated Greece, Jordan and New Zealand. Their next two games are against Montenegro and Lithuania. But it was an NBA player not on Team USA's roster that stole the show in Manila this week. Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson made an appearance at a local mall where he proceeded to sink a halfcourt shot in one try, much to the delight of the fans in attendance.

One of the best shooters in the NBA and in league history overall, Klay Thompson has been hitting shots like that for the Warriors his entire career. It's certainly a good sign for Warriors fans as Thompson is reportedly in great shape ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Thompson was originally drafted by the Warriors with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. A five-time All-Star, Thompson has been a crucial part of four Warriors championship teams in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.

This past season, Thompson suited up in 69 games for the Warriors and put up his best season since returning from injuries that sidelined him for both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. He averaged 21.9 points per game, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists with splits of 43.6 percent shooting from the field, 41.2 percent shooting from the three-point line and 87.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The Warriors added Chris Paul this offseason and it will be interesting to see if Steve Kerr plays the trio of Thompson, Paul and Stephen Curry together this year.
